Project Description

DEVELOPMENT OF A DEMONSTRATION CELL FOR THE METRASCAN 3D-R

CLIENT : Creaform – Marketing Department

INDUSTRY : Advanced technologies

DESCRIPTION

The Creaform Marketing Department gave Creaform Engineering the task to develop demonstrations cells for the MetraSCAN 3D-R scanner. Each cell includes a six-axis Fanuc M20iA robot that can handle the MetraSCAN 3D-R and also three external axes that allow movement of the parts to be digitized, while simulating different production environments. The purpose of these cells was to showcase the scanner’s potential during marketing exhibitions all around the world.

For this project, Creaform Engineering worked on the complete electrical and mechanical design. We were also in charge of the risk analysis to confirm that all threats related to its operation were eliminated and that CSA safety standards were achieved. To ensure external axis control, the control box has been designed to incorporate a programmable logic controller (PLC), and other electronic equipment. Moreover, our automation team took advantage of having an in-house digital simulation team to conduct a FEA analysis to validate the mechanical resistance strength during operations and shipping.

In brief, our team came up with a solution quick to assemble and disassemble, but especially easy for road and plane shipment. It is possible to see the MetraSCAN 3D-R perform in different exhibitions all over the planet.
